Flac Support
- Install madFlac DirectShow Filter (http://www.free-codecs.com/download/madFLAC.htm) as suggested by Flac's official website (http://flac.sourceforge.net/documentation_tasks.html). Note that it should be decompressed at the intended installation location (e.g. C:\Program Files (x86)\WMP madFlac-1.10 for Pigbert), since the decompressed files will be used directly by WMP after installation. This program supposedly marks around with the registry a bit so that flac can be included in WMP's music library.
- Install codec. This step may not be necessary, Pigbert did not need it. Try to play a flac file, if it plays, skip this step.
- Install WMP Tag Plus (http://bmproductions.fixnum.org/index.htm?http://bmproductions.fixnum.org/wmptagplus/), which is a WMP plug-in that adds tag editing for MPEG-4, FLAC, Vorbis and WavPack files. If it does not seem to work on flac, edit flac's tag using mp3tag (http://www.mp3tag.de/en/download.html) (a free external tag editor) first, then the tag editing should show up in WMP library.
IMs
IMs such as Trillian and MSN Messenger automatically add their plugins into WMP so that your friends can see the music currently being played on your computer. Remember to disable them.
Tag Editor
For WMP 11 & 12, the best library right-click tag editor is Windows Media Player Plus! (http://bmproductions.fixnum.org/index.htm?http://bmproductions.fixnum.org/wmpplus/), which also provides a set of other functions such as hotkeys, party shuffle, and a set of small neat additional functionalities.
